New Orleanians never have to wait long to get their festival fix. In fact, there are so many of these city-wide parties that you may feel like you only have enough time for the best of the best. Lucky for you, one of those is this weekend - the Gretna Heritage Festival, on October 2-4, 2015. One of the biggest festivals in New Orleans, Gretna Fest is a triple threat: musical performances, food as diverse as it is delicious, artsy vendors and more!
Actually Gretna Fest is so big that it demands a plan. You’ll need to do some prep work, and our informative guide below makes that quick and easy. That way there’s nothing between you and a great time at Gretna Fest!

The main attraction at this Westbank bash is the live music, and it’s no wonder with this year’s headliners: Hank Williams Jr., Kid Rock and Bret Michaels! And of course local music fans can get their fill too. With six stages, there’s enough room for local and national artists to play side by side. Click here for the full lineup.
It’s only appropriate that a New Orleans festival would have out-of-this-world food. The gigantic food tent hosts an ethnically diverse mix of over thirty restaurants and vendors, including the American Society, Krewe of Choctaw, and Prejean’s. There’s also a German Beer Garden and an Italian Village for authentic European fare, and this year’s fest debuts a number of food trucks - in short, there’s enough food to go around.
Arts and Crafts
Over sixty vendors are lined up to sell their unique merchandise at this year’s Gretna Fest! You can show off your pride for the Big Easy with locally themed products like hats from Dat Hat, apparel from NOLA ‘Til Ya Die, and jewelry from Stainless NOLA. There’s also art from local and national artists, not to mention books, toys and so much more! Find the full list of vendors here.
In between the delicious food and rocking music you may want to get a glimpse of the city from the ferris wheel or catch some thrills on a rollercoaster! Either way, Gretna Fest has got you covered. The thrill rides and carnival games are especially great for keeping kids entertained. Details on times and prices can be found here.
Transportation and Accommodation
Free parking for the festival is available at the Central Parking Center and the Oakwood Center. Also, there’s a free shuttle from Westside Shopping Center and the Oakwood Center. Click here for the festival’s location and accommodation recommendations.
The best part of Gretna Fest is that all the fun you have goes toward a number of good causes! The group that organizes the festival, the Gretna Economic Development Association (GEDA), is a non-profit that has sponsored over sixty local businesses and charities like CASA. And this year Toys for Tots will be accepting toys and cash donations. So have fun and make a difference at Gretna Fest!
